Most people do not know how exhausting, overwhelming, and frustrating it can be to constantly be fighting against your mind and body. As someone who has an anxiety disorder, I understand that it likely feels like you are stuck and things will never get better. But there is hope, and you are not alone. I am committed to supporting and working alongside you and will listen, empathize, and guide you towards the process of healing.

Anxiety Becomes A Problem When It Starts To Control Your Life

When you’re living with anxiety, just the idea of seeking help can seem stressful. You may suffer from social anxiety and worry that treatment would just make your anxiety worse. Besides, when you turned to other people in the past, they might’ve invalidated you or told you that “everyone gets anxious from time to time.”

While it’s true that anxiety is a universal human experience, it becomes a major problem when it starts to run your life. This is why it’s important to seek help. Here at Brendan Marshall Counselling, I want to help you regulate your anxiety so that it doesn’t make all your decisions for you. This is a chance to get back in the driver’s seat and stop letting stress hold you back from the life you want.

What do the Symptoms of Anxiety Typically Look Like?

Anxiety can manifest in different ways, and the symptoms can vary from person to person.

How personalized anxiety therapy works

Personalized therapy begins with understanding your unique experiences and goals. Through tailored sessions, we use techniques to address your challenges, foster growth.

Initial Assessment

The process begins with an in-depth conversation to understand your challenges, goals, and personal history. This helps us create a clear roadmap for your therapy journey.

01

Tailored Approach

The process involves finding the unique approach that works for you. We will explore what has and has not worked for you in the past, and meet you where you are at right now.

02

Collaborative Sessions

This is where we will work together to examine what has and has not been working for you. We will have conversations and adapt our approach based on how well or not things are going. I will ask you for feedback often and explore how we can better meet your therapeutic needs.

What Can You Do When Experiencing Anxiety

Anxiety attacks can be very distressing and overwhelming, but there are some techniques that can help to reduce the intensity and duration of the attack. Here are some tips that may help:

Deep breathing: Taking slow, deep breaths can help to calm the body and reduce feelings of anxiety. Try to breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and then breathe out for 8 seconds.

Grounding techniques: Focus on your surroundings and try to describe what you see, hear, smell, and touch. This can help to bring you back to the present moment and reduce feelings of dissociation.

Progressive muscle relaxation: Tense and then relax each muscle group in your body, starting from your toes and working your way up to your head. This can help to release physical tension and reduce feelings of anxiety.

Mindfulness: Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Try to observe them as if you are an outsider looking in. This can help you to feel more in control and reduce the intensity of the anxiety.

Talking to someone: Reach out to a friend, family member, or mental health professional who can provide support and help you to work through the anxiety attack.

Remember that everyone’s experience with anxiety is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you find that you’re struggling to manage your anxiety attacks, it’s important to seek professional help from a mental health provider.

Our first meeting is an initial assessment where we discuss your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. It is also an opportunity for us to see if we are a good fit and for you to ask any questions about how I work.

Many extended health benefit plans cover services provided by Registered Psychotherapists. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage details and any annual limits.

The duration of therapy varies depending on your unique needs and the complexity of the goals you wish to achieve. Most clients find some relief after a few sessions, with most seeing results in a few months of focused work, while others prefer ongoing support for deeper personal growth.
