Issues

Common challenges I see in my clients

Anxiety

Anxiety is a typical response to the stressors in our lives. Many of us have difficulties in our work, our closest relationships and our finances. But anxiety is more than just a feeling of concern or awareness about the issues in your life. You might feel a sense of fear, dread, or even panic. You may avoid certain people, tasks or situations because it feels overwhelming.

If your anxiety is having an impact on your daily activities, individual psychotherapy can work with you to find effective methods to manage your symptoms. Our therapists can help you achieve the peace and balance in your life that you’ve been looking for. We will equip you with practical skills and strategies to reframe your mindset and thinking.

Burnout

Our lives require a lot from us! We are often held to high standards at work, which may feel impossible to maintain on a consistent basis. We also need to maintain healthy relationships with the people closest to us, and if we’re parents, take on the often thankless responsibility of raising our children.

More and more, clients are seeking counseling for burnout. They come to us with feeling overwhelmed and overextended with the expectations and responsibilities that have been heaped on them, with no clear path for relief or resolution. They feel low and withdrawn, lacking the motivation they used to have for their daily tasks. These individuals will often find it almost impossible to do more than the minimum required during periods of burnout.

Depression

Depression goes beyond just sadness. It can be debilitating to those who suffer from it, making simple tasks seem impossible. They will often have no interest in their favourite activities. There is often a sense of constant fatigue, diminished self-worth and a lack of motivation or purpose.

These feelings can be complicated and inconvenient for busy professionals and entrepreneurs, especially with never-ending work, family and social obligations.

Depression is common in women, often stemming from challenges in their relationships, a lack of work-life balance, financial hardships or major life events. For example, having a baby or a death in the family can have a major impact on a person. Depression can even be brought on by the changing of the seasons, as those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) would attest to.

Truama

If you have gone through a traumatic event, know that you are stronger and braver than you think. It is human to be deeply affected by troubling or distressing incidents in your life. Professional help is often recommended to traumatized individuals to help them process emotions and find healthy ways to cope.

Left unmanaged, emotional trauma can have a negative impact on your health. It can manifest itself as anxiety and depression or physically as headaches, nausea and a general feeling of malaise. You may develop post-traumatic stress syndrome, with flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and distress when presented with triggering events or reminders. These symptoms can hinder you from living the full and joyful life you deserve.

Trauma counselling can be very effective in providing strategies to assist. Our therapists are trained in trauma-informed care and have helped many clients learn how to handle their challenging past experiences in a healthy and supportive manner.

ADHD

Therapy for ADHD can be highly beneficial in helping individuals manage and overcome the challenges associated with ADHD. Therapy offers a structured and supportive environment where you can learn effective coping strategies, develop essential skills such as time management and organization, improve emotional regulation, and enhance self-awareness.

Therapy sessions are tailored to address your specific needs and goals, whether you're struggling with focus and attention, impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, or difficulties in relationships. By working with a qualified therapist, you can gain valuable insights into your ADHD symptoms, learn practical techniques to manage them, and ultimately improve your overall quality of life.

Men's Issues

For many men, there may be a tremendous amount of fear or shame in seeking help or reaching out to a therapist.

Many men book a consultation not knowing what to say or ask. For others, stepping into therapy provides an outlet that has never been available and one may feel relieved to open up and discuss their struggles with an inviting therapeutic ear.

The goal of the therapist within the first few sessions is to understand the client's story, build rapport and trust, and create a safe space to explore and discuss the challenges the client is facing in their world.

Chronic Illness

Chronic Illness can have a significant impact on virtually every area of someone's life, including their work, social life, self-esteem, relationships, autonomy, and more. Individuals who face this challenge require unique support from someone who understands what it is like to have their body or mind turn on them. As someone who has faced multiple chronic illnesses and lives with chronic pain, I understand the unique challenges you face.

Therapy sessions will focus on understanding the impact that chronic illness can have on your goals, sense of purpose, values. They will provide you with a safe space to share your feelings and explore the reality of your illness.

Relationships

Therapy can help individuals develop healthier romantic relationships by providing them with the tools and insight to understand and improve their own behaviors and communication styles.

A therapist can help individuals identify and work through any underlying issues or past traumas that may be impacting their relationships.
